This is a driving assistant app running on center console that helps drivers to improve driving behavior and reduce fuel consumption by imposing subconscious effects on drivers via presenting animated interface.
The initial purpose of designing the app was helping drivers to be aware of their driving habits. The system would give a score based on the mileage, fuel consumption, brake times and other data to improve their driving behaviors. To not bore the users with pure number responses, we explored on how to present the key data on the interface. The inspiration of the final design came from waggling water-imagine when it be placed in a glass in a moving car. We simulated the movement of water by drawing animated lines and used it as the screen saver of the central console. We chose this concept because we believe real-time interactive effects give users more intuitive, interesting, and friendly experience than the numbers. By applying the concept, the app helps drivers to subconsciously reduce the chance of unnecessary breaks and rapidly speeding-up, so that the app can act as a driving assistant.
The users receive feedback about their previous driving behaviors and other data of the trip. The app keeps the driving history of the user so that he can easily track the change of his driving behaviors over time.
