Youyou Mobile is a renowned enterprise, providing Wi-Fi service for traveling abroad. In order to provide better service in the mobile age, Youyou Mobile launched an app named "Youyou Paipai" in May 2015, which enables users to tell their stories, connect with each other and get to know other traveler's onsite experience. After three months' feedback collecting and product revision, Youyou Mobile gained a deeper understanding about the travelers, and hired Zaiye to conduct further innovations. To realize innovative service value based on the existing strength, two parities reached an agreement that the app should serve three functions: exploring the world, gaining information, and sharing happiness.
Get recommendation about classic tour
Gain information about the attractions
Upload and share user's travel story
Rather than give a solution by refining limited travel experience, Zaiye try to get a thorough understanding about the challenges incurred in the trip by communicating with app users from the planning phase till the end of the trip. Zaiye's philosophy is to create a successful product. Zaiye Design conducted a sequence of research and in depth interviews to gain comprehensive insights by using human-centered method. We talk to travelers, listen to the challenges they faced, things that need to be prepared for, and special experience. In this way, we can create a travel model profile for each interviewer, summarize a list of important things, develop a persona, and find an answer for questions raised from Youyou app.
Inspired by questionnaires and in depth interviews, we believe travelling products need to have the following features:
1. Balance between freedom and safety
The target travelers want to plan their trip on their own, instead of following tour guides; therefore, we use maps to connect all the functions of the app to make users have a sense of safety, aiming to attract and maintain more users.
2. Main spot is the start of travelling
Our research indicates that almost 80% of the travelers would list must see attractions before the trip and arrange the whole day based on those attractions' locations and the time spent onsite. Therefore, our interface lists all the important attractions first so users can compare their planned destination with the ones we list in the first place.
3. Splendidness > perfect plan
Most travelers choose to visit destinations in several countries as their first time outbound trip. Therefore, we use the must see attractions as the center spots, and recommend the events/ activities around those spots based on users' profile and their experience. This way, the app can help travelers to filter out unrealistic plans, which will minimize the information volume, and decision difficulty
Balance between freedom and safty
Main spot is the start of travelling
Splendidness > perfect plan
After building up the framework, we also make an effort of improving the interface design to create a unique user experience. We notice that many travelers would buy souvenirs or even maps at the end of trips, so we prefer the maps on the app are customized unlike Google maps. Users are able to print out the stylish maps as trip souvenirs.
An interactive city map helps tourists find excellent experiences besides main spots.
Popular attractions
Historic attractions
Landmarks
Besides the map, the interface also is customized to draw all the main attractions. The special model of the main attraction is in accordance with the starting point of the trip, and also makes sure the users have fun collecting things and sharing.
The app can help to record, analyze, and summarize the trip on a report, which enables the users to print them out and share the trips with their families and friends.
